We strive to give full unencumbered access to the internet's vast knowledge for everyone who suffers from Dyslexia.
What is the Dyslexic Browser?
The Dyslexic Browser is an extension which offers a wide range of features to help ease the pain
of reading online text. It is designed to be as simple and easy to use as possible so that people
of any age could figure it out. Dyslexia is very unique to each person and we we try to accomidate that.
There are over 20 differnet parameters for you to play with to make it your own.
Origins Story
The Dyslexic Browser was created by Jimmy Baldwin in the summer of 2021 as a resource to help him
better understand instructions for homework assignments at school. Though there are many extensions on the market that provided the
the resources he needed, all of them had paywalls. Being a broke college student already in debt up the wazoo, he decided to build his own! Thus came the dyslexic browser.
After sharing it with a few of his dyslexic friends, he decided to release it to the public with the idea to never have to hide any of its features behind a paywall so that
anyone who finds themselves in a simular position and is not able to just "Make their own" can still have access to all the benifits that this technology provides.
Jimmy's Dyslexic Story
I was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD in 7th grade. Before begin diagnosed, I was constantly considered to be the "dumb kid who couldn't read" by both my class mates and a few of my teachers.
There were some teachers however who recognized that something was going on. My math skills and understanding of complex concepts were exceptional and my lack of reading comprehension was astonishing. In 6th grade I recieved a scholarship to
a local private school, LTS, where the english teacher suggested to my parents that I get tested. After my diagnosis, I gained a new confidence. Understanding that my brain did not function
the same way as others allowed me to accept my short commings when it came to reading. It allowed me to focus on my strengths in math, science and engineering. My accedemic success shifted dramatically.
In highschool I participated in the achedemic olympiad, was a part of our key club, was the captain of our swim team, and was the president of our art club. I was actually excited going to school in the morning and would often get to class an hour
before it started each morning so I could talk with the teacher about physics. I graduated with honors and got into my top choice of schools. Without the frustrations that came with dyslexia, and accepting that I wouldn't be able to read the same as everyone else I was able to thrive. By making this extension free, I hope to help everyone avoid the frustration of being labeled "the dumb kid" because of dyslexia. The dyslexic brain is powerful when it comes to doing what it is designed to do. This extension is just a catalyst. When we all are able to focus on learning what we enjoy without having to worry about reading, there is no limit to the amazingness we can produce.
Happy Learning!!
